How did we ever do it?

It's hot here in Colorado today. This morning it was so cold that the kids at the swim meet were goose-bumped and literally blue, but now as dinner simmers on the stove, it has reached 82.9 degrees according to the kitchen counter thermometer.
Now, I know that is not hot by Seguin standards, but maybe I have acclimated or maybe it is age or maybe 82 is hotter than it used to be, but it makes me wonder how we did it in the days when we didn't have AC at SHS or at Saegert before that. (Oh, my, I sound like those relatives we always swore we would never be.... Next thing I will be wearing a robe to drop my daughter at school....)
What are your memories of summer in Seguin? Do you remember how the hall always smelled that first week of school? Or how hot and dusty Freedom Fiesta always made you feel? Share your summer memories....
I think I'll grab an ice tea and sit under a ceiling fan for a bit....

I've wondered the same thing as far as how we made it through the day without any AC. I made my annual trip to Seguin for Freedom Fiesta and the parade. The parade was shorter than years past, but my clothes were still drenched with sweat by the time it was over. My heart went out to the members of the various Courts wearing those heavy dresses and capes while riding the floats.

Mary,
Here's another link of interest:

If you click on "Seguin Citizen" sometimes you get lucky and they'll feature a former classmate, teacher, friend, etc...

Mary,

Thanks for putting this together- what a great way to catch up and hear about others. It is hot here in Fort Worth too...Thanks goodness for AC.

Any plans for a 25th?

Hey Guys, the advantage of no A/C in class made it easier to fall asleep. This was especially true in Ms. Edler's English IV class. She liked me so I did not ever get woken up.

Can't say the same for Johnny Evans because he twitched and snored when he slept.

I have hated summers more and more as I have gotten older. Here in Columbia, SC the only thing seperating us from hell is a screen door.

Mary, been trying to convince my wife a move to Colorado would be a good one. So far no luck.

It was good to see everyone a couple of years ago, I'd love to have a 25th.

Hi everyone! Mary thanks for putting this together.

Out here in AZ we would not survive without a/c. Forget what anyone tries to tell you about the "dry heat", hot is hot! :)

Hi Mary
I'm in Wyoming and I think the weather has much to be desired in many parts of this great nation, however it is my belief that when we are old, what we think is HOT will be perfect weather someday, while we are kicking back on the porch watching the grandkids, it's funny today it was 45 this morning and I thought it was cold....I guess my blood hasn't thickened enough. My kids school here is not air conditioned so they are getting ready to be back in the great state TEXAS and then they will be spoiled again. We are moving to ANNA, TEXAS by McKinney by October 1.....ttfn

I will agree with Kevin,
Here in AZ got a saying.
"What we think of as Summer most people think of HELL, what we think of Winter most people think of Paridise." ...and I it is almost here.

And yes, time sure passing fast.

Winey, winey, winey .. so this should take you back .. sometimes there is a story that doesnt sound that diff than 1986 .. I woke up on Sat a.m. in Lake McQueeney, Tex .. late and not feeling well after an over-wined evening w/Phil Wuest in Seguin, had coffee on the porch watching the lake, and then about 11:30 when the sun was blaring down and the heat was rising off the pavement so that your eyes deceive you and you cant get a breath, I ran 6 mi to Michele (Norman) Norris' house to hang out with her a while .. was it 2008 or 1986? No, I didnt smell good as the gallons of wine left my body and fell down on Hwy 78 and 46 but I felt GREAT .. GREAT to be back in Texas after a 10 year hiatus in GA and WDC .. There's no place like home .. Who love's u, Mary? Julie Pomerantz (Austin, Tx)

Julie P. - why do I think it was 2008 AND 1986.... Your story made me laugh out loud, as did Randy's comment about the screen door.... Can't believe we are all mostly 40.

Uh, Mary some of us are already 40. Julie, I bet your taste in vino has elevated in the last 22 years. I don't see any Malt Duck or B-farm being consumed.
